For Sale:
67 RS Camaro drag car. According to the previous owner, this car was originally purchase at a local GM dealership, driven home 3 miles, and cut up to be a drag car. Probably another urban legand, but interesting thought anyway. And this car has been a race car for many years.
It’s a 427 BBC, studded 4 bolt mains, 12.5:1 compression, .650 roller cam (intake: 290* dur, .649 lift; exh: 306*, .677 lift; 107 lobe sep, installed at 103*), new valve springs installed according to cam card,
electric water pump, MSD crank triggered ignition, Merlin rect ports with 2.25 intakes, 1:6 Harlan roller rockers, Holley “prostock” 1150cfm carb, Edelbrock Super Victor 454R intake, PG trans with pro
brake 1.76 1st, 5000 stall, 12 bolt spool with 5.14 gears, ladder bars, 14x32" slicks @ 6.5lb. The car is tinned and gutted, not much left really; just a bracket car now. The doghouse is FG,
front suspension is stock, except for the shocks and springs. Drum brakes all around. So far I’ve run a best of 6.50s in the 1/8th with a best 1.46 60’ time, and a best of 104mph. The front wheels are
carried 8-10’ out, with about 8-10” height.
Engine was rebuilt in 2004, with only 15-20 trips to the track since then (new rings, bearings, gaskets, etc).
Transmission was rebuilt in 2005, with only 8-10 trips to the track since then. At the time, the converter was rebuilt by Transmission Specialties, and the internals (input/output shafts, planetary, clutches,
etc) were all replaced using Transmission Specialties parts. The front pump is a stock unit, and the brand of the manual valve body and pro style brake are not known. The transmission works great.
Rear shocks rebuilt in 2006 by Aldan. Haven’t even seen a trip down the track yet.
The fuel system consists of a 1/2” alum line from fuel cell directly to the carb. Return line comes out of the carb to the return style Holley regulator, then back to the fuel cell. The fuel pump is the
black Holley 140gph pump (new in 2005).
This car is more consistent in the 60’ than I can be. On a hot summer day it’ll run 6.80s, and on a cool dry day will run 6.60s. See some timeslips here.
Located just SW of Indianapolis, IN.
